Manure can improve soil fertility and support healthy oil palm growth, but where, when, and how you apply it matters.
For immature palms, use well-decomposed manure and spread it around the root zone, leaving space around the stem. Don’t pile manure directly against a young palm.
For mature palms, the roots spread much farther, so manure should be distributed around the root zone, especially under the canopy, rather than dumped in one spot beside the trunk.
Simple example:
If you have 1-year-old palms, don’t make a heap of manure around each stem. Spread it evenly around the palm so the developing roots can access the nutrients.
For mature palms, spread the manure over a wider area because their active roots extend much farther from the trunk.
One mistake farmers make:
Thinking that *more manure = more yield.
The right quantity depends on the palm’s age, soil condition, manure type, and nutrient requirements.
